Whew, I landed this morning at 6AM HK time after 12+ hours in the air. First impression of HK = HUMID! Wait, let me back up...first impression of HK is Swine Flu/Infectious Diseases paranoia. So I board the plane and I notice that like half the plane has a face mask on (the kind that doctors wear). I shrug it off thinking that okay maybe people are just all paranoid a bit because of swine flu and they were coming from the USA. But after we landed and everyone was getting their stuff, there was this announcement that everyone had to remain in their seats because some kid had a crazy fever and medical personnel were on their way. We had to stay in our seats for an HOUR while the medical people examined the kid. These medical people looked like something out of a movie with like body suits and face masks on...I seriously thought they were about to quarantine us or perform some sort of open heart surgery...ridiculous.
To top that off, everyone starts freaking out and putting on face masks...then the CREW starts putting on face masks and of course after that happens, everyone on the plane starts looking around in a panic and putting jackets on their faces. I'm like are you SERIOUS??? The kid has a freakin' fever...he's a kid...kids get sick...what the hell is the big deal? Not to mention everyone is staring at the poor kid and taking PICTURES (like they are going to show their friends some poor kid that had a false case of swine flu). I felt so horrible for this kid...he was like crying and walking out and his family looked all embarassed while everyone else on the plane gawked and whispered to each other about how he has the swine flu and this and that. The funny thing is, the only people not freaking out were myself and the Europeans on the plane...I guess this hyper-sensitive paranoia for swine flu must be an HK thing...
But anyways, I got to the hotel and changed/showered and walked around. I went to visit my school just to make sure I know how to get there. HK has a LOT of hills...everything involves stairs, a hill or an escalator. I think I'm definitely gonna have some killer calves by the time I leave. The campus is pretty big and spread out and of course built on a giant hill so getting from one building to another involves climbing stairs...it's weird I can't describe it...I have to show it in pictures. But I did find the law school building and walked right into the law library...which felt very familiar (I guess law libraries will always have that same feel...hah).
I got me a cell phone after bargaining in my not so good Chinese skills, which I am kind of proud of. The guy was even like "damn you have pretty good Chinese for an American dude" haha.
Alright, I'm off to check out the rooftop lounge/bar, pool and fitness center of my hotel and then I'm going to do some self-guided walking tours...time to get lost on the Metro wooohooo!
Pictures to come in a bit...with clever captions of course =D

Pictures include those hot singapore airline stewardesses? The paranoia is from SARS a few years back man. Can't ever play it too safe.
